Our Story
Rick B. Smith, the founder of Smith Industries, was a true native of the Permian Basin. He first started in business with his father, E.L. Smith, and two brothers (Danny and Don) at Smith Brother’s Pipe.
For many years they endured the numerous booms and busts of the Permian Basin oil business, but they always found a way to persevere in the business they loved. Always an entrepreneur, Rick founded Smith Industries in 2004 where he built a family-owned company centered around hard work, integrity, and great talent. Rick’s legacy of culture and commitment continues today at Smith Industries.

Chris Smith
Educated at Midland College & Texas Tech University, Chris knows the Oil & Gas areas at Smith Industries better than most since his father, Rick Smith, founded the company in 2004. Chris joined the company when his dad reached out to him in 2008 to begin learning the business and working with him full-time. He also learned a simple business model from his dad: take care of the people and the equipment, and you’ll have the opportunity to consistently take care of the customers.
When not at work, Chris enjoys spending time in the great outdoors with family and friends as well as supporting local charities. Ask anyone, and they’ll describe Chris as solid, unconditional, real, dependable, and consistent.
Ed Antar
Ed may be new to the area but he’s not new to the Utility industry. Ed has spent 20+ years developing his career and learning the engineering, operations and sales skills necessary to run and grow a Utility Division. When he saw what we had started here at Smith Industries, he saw a diamond in the rough that he knew he could make shine! Before joining Smith Industries, Ed studied Engineering at the University of Houston and worked for over 20 years for various steel pole manufacturers. Ed is just the person to be at the helm of our Utility Division.
Whenever he has time Ed loves spending time at his ranch and being with his family. And, every now and then his old soul will draw him off the road and into an old antique store, “You never know what treasure you’ll find.”
